Today, Meet Us on Main Street was really Meet Us on the Mezzanine as we met upstairs for book talk, followed by book group talk with Book Group Savvy. The selections and chat this morning ranged from fiction about Smith graduates, ghosts, Oprah's book club choices, and what our "stuff" says about us. (My favorite quotes from this morning's talk were, "She's obnoxious, but in a good way," and "It's an avenue to nosiness.")
Also discussed was Inside the Painter's Studio by Joe Fig.This book offers a rare look into the artist's studio and includes aspects of a painter's daily routine. The author, an artist himself, embarked on this adventure almost ten years ago and features interviews with Gregory Amenoff, Ross Bleckner, Chuck Close, Will Cotton, Inka Essenhigh, Eric Fischl, Barnaby Furnas, April Gornik, Jane Hammond, Mary Heilmann, Bill Jensen, Ryan McGinness, Julie Mehretu, Malcolm Morley, Steve Mumford, Philip Pearlstein, Matthew Ritchie, Alexis Rockman, Dana Schutz, James Siena, Amy Sillman, Joan Snyder, Billy Sullivan, and Fred Tomaselli.
We'll be back on Main Street at 11 a.m. next Wednesday, October 14th, and the subject will be favorite cookbooks - just in time to begin thinking about planning those holiday menus (and gifts)!
