I could not be more pleased to announce the return of the One Page Poetry Circle to Darien Library this fall.
It's not a class and it's not a workshop. It's a discussion (and a lively one at that!) But you can count on the fact that there will be something new to take away from each session - whether it is a better understanding of a poetic technique, an introduction to a new poet, or the re-discovery of a beloved poem from your past. And we couldn't be more eager to begin! So mark your calendars. Here are our dates & themes for the fall:
Wednesday, September 15 at 7 PM — Hope
Think optimism...looking forward...dreams.
Wednesday, October 6 at 7 PM — Challenge
Think competition...sports...goals.
Wednesday, November 3 at 7 PM — Gratitude
Think fortune...compassion...giving.
Wednesday, December 8 at 7 PM — Connections
Think relationships...gaps...purpose.
For each month, bring a single page of poetry by an established poet - with selections inspired by the theme chosen for the month. We will take turns reading and listening to poems, all while working together as a group to figure out their meaning and purpose. The discussions, led by the fabulously thoughtful and inspiring Madge McKeithen (Faculty of The Writing Program at The New School), will introduce new poets, poems, devices, and language to the group - and make for a wonderful environment to tackle poetry at your own pace.
Not sure where to start in finding your One Page? Darien Library’s poetry collection, located in Main Reading Room on the 2nd floor, is a treasure trove and includes compilations from contemporary authors, local and New England poets, and classic favorites.
