Unusual Annuals & Tropicals

Presented by Eric C. Morgan, Collections Manager, Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens

We love thinking spring here at Darien Library, especially after enduring Snowgate 2011. But a new season has arrived, and along with warmer weather, it has also brought the return of the Master Gardeners! In past years, their presentations on perennials and container gardening had us all inspired and prepared to tackle our own outdoor spaces. This year, we're focusing on the unusual...the uncommon...the rare. And what's more intriguing than that?!

Our guest speaker will offer an introduction to the use of unusual annuals and tropical plants in the summer garden. A description of numerous plants, including their care, over-wintering tips, and sources to acquire plant material, will also be covered.

Eric C. Morgan is a Botanist and holds degrees in biology from Stony Brook University and the City University of New York. He has done research in the northeastern United States and the tropics on a variety of topics, including bryology. Mr. Morgan joined the Barlett staff in June 2006.
