Laptop Computers

The Darien Library offers Dell Inspiron Laptops. Wireless network cards are also available for patrons who wish to connect to our network here in the library using their own laptops.

This equipment is available to patrons who are 18 years old and older, who supply a valid credit card (in the patron's name), and who either live in Darien, work full-time in Darien, or are Friends of the Library at the $300 annual level.

Dell (2-Week) Laptops
The Dell Inspiron 600m laptop computers come equipped with an internal DVD/CD-RW drive and an external floppy disk drive. The units are equipped with an internal modem and a wireless network card. Programs loaded on these computers include Microsoft Office XP with Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word; Microsoft Internet Explorer browser software; and Netscape Navigator browser software. These laptops can be checked out for two weeks at a time and reserved through the library catalog. The units are not renewable.

Wireless Network Cards
Orinoco Silver PC cards are available from the Darien Technology Foundation Center at the Darien Library. The cards may be borrowed for one day at a time for use in a patron's own laptop here in the library.
