With over 20 years of professional experience performing on Broadway, Frank Mastrone brings his talents to the Darien Arts Center. Known for his charismatic style, Mastrone weaves music and storytelling bridging his life on Broadway with his role as a family man in Connecticut.

Mastrone has been a professional performer since graduating from Central Connecticut State College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting and directing.  His first big break was joining the first national tour of Cats as "Gus: The Theatre Cat".  When he returned, he was cast in the original company of The Phantom Of The Opera in which he has performed over 4,000 times over the past 25 years. He was on Broadway in Les Miserables as Jean Val Jean, in Jekyll and Hyde in the title role, in the stage version of Saturday Night Fever as Mr. Fusco, and "the paint store guy" in Big: The Musical. He has traveled the country in shows like Evita, Les Miserables, and Mamma Mia!

Mastrone has presented Meet The Artist programs for Lincoln Center and has taught master classes and workshops for Broadway Backstage, Field Studies of NY, and currently at the Greenwich Performing Arts Studio. The Darien Arts Center is proud to have him perform in the DAC Weatherstone Studio for an intimate evening of music.

Flu season is upon us and the best way to remain healthy and avoid infection is to receive a flu vaccination.  For your convenience, the Darien Health Department will host a “VOTE and VAX” flu shot clinic on Election Day in the Town Hall Auditorium.  Preservative free vaccine will be offered to anyone over the age of 36 months.  Also, we offer a preservative free high dose vaccine specially formulated for those 65 and older.  No appointments are needed. 

Cost

The flu vaccine costs $30 and is payable by cash, check, Medicare Part B or a ConnectiCare insurance card.

In addition, both vaccines are also available by appointment in the Health Department office every Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.  Appointments may be scheduled at www.darienhealth.com.

Candidates for the Office of Board of Education will participate in a discussion and debate in the Darien Library Community Room. This is a contested race with four candidates, two Democrats and two Republicans, running for three positions on the Board. 

The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with a “meet and greet” for voters and the candidates.  The program begins at 7:00 p.m. and concludes at 8:15 p.m.

Darien’s 5th Annual Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) MobilePack™ Event, the event is hosted by Darien's 11 local churches and co-sponsored by the Council for Darien School Parents. The Darien FMSC MobilePack™ Event offers local volunteers a chance to provide hope and life to starving children.  Each day approximately 6,200 children die from starvation all around the world.  Approximately 1,000 volunteers will be needed for the 2013 event.

Darien Now Provides a Location to Dispose of Unwanted/Expired Drugs

Get rid of any unwanted, expired or unused drugs now. They can be dropped off FREE with no questions asked! Please, do not bring needles; this program is for meds ONLY.

Citizens looking to dispose of unwanted, excess and expired prescription and over-the-counter medications will be now be able to utilize the safe and secure permanent drop off box located in the lobby of the Darien Police Department at 25 Hecker Ave. The lobby of the Darien Police Headquarters is open to the public 24 hours every day.

The Darien Health Department has partnered with the Darien Police Department to establish a permanent drug collection program in order to reduce the supply of drugs that can potentially harm teens and adults as well as protecting the environment from the improper disposal of these drugs.

Rep. Himes to Host a Town Hall Meeting on Syria
