Genealogy Resources at the Library

    Ancestry.com The Library Editions includes the Social Security Death Index and U.S. Census Records, and numerous databases dedicated to specific ethnic origins and regions.

    Biography and Genealogy Master Index 

    Biographical entries contained in more than 1,000 volumes and editions of important current and retrospective biographical reference sources. Citations that point to over 15 million biographies on nearly 5 million people, living and deceased, from all time periods, geographical locations, and fields of endeavor.

    Connecticut Historical Newspapers 

    This extensive online collection offers nearly 80 newspapers published between 1756 and 1914 in the State of Connecticut.

    HeritageQuest  Trace family history and American culture using searchable images of U.S. federal census records along with the UMI Genealogy and Local History collection catalog.

    Obituaries & Death Notices (via NewsBank) 

    NewsBank boasts the largest and most comprehensive collection of newspaper obituaries and death notices.

Barron's - America's premier financial magazine. In addition to the complete contents of the weekly magazine, it includes access to the Market Data Center, Market Lab, Stock Picks &  Pans, and StockGrader. Business Insights: Essentials - Accurate, up-to-date company and industry intelligence of more than 300,000 companies with company profiles, industry rankings, products and brands, stock prices, investment reports, industry statistics, and more.

GDL: Consultants and Consulting Organizations Directory 35 -This invaluable database unites businesses, government agencies, institutions and individuals with the experts who can aid in the creation and maintenance of prosperous competitive businesses.

Morningstar Investment Research Center One of today’s most comprehensive financial databases for information about stocks, mutual funds, ETF’s and markets.  Also includes portfolio tools for help determining what your asset mix should be, as well as retirement and college savings calculators. 

New York Times- Search the full text of the New York Times from 1995 - present.

Reference USA - Companies can be located by type of business, regional location, size and a variety of other criteria. Personal phone numbers and addresses can be found by using the Residential Database.

Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage - A professional source for company analysis and investment rankings, plus tools to understand personal & family financial matters.

The Street.com Ratings: Stocks, HMOs, Banks and Mutual Funds - Search the Weiss Investment Ratings and Reports for stocks by ticker symbol, company name, or industry sector. Get the most up-to-date reports at your convenience, from the library or from home.

ValueLine - Information on stocks or mutual funds, including ValueLine Investment Survey Standard;  ValueLine Investment  Survey Expanded Edition; Mutual Fund Survey; ValueLine Daily Options Survey; ValueLine Special Situations Service; and ValueLine Convertible Survey.

Ward's Business Directory of U.S. Private and Public Companies - Ward's now lists more than 112,000 companies, 90% of which are private. Volumes 1, 2 and 3 provide current company information in a single A-Z arrangement. Volume 4 is a geographic company listing, offering at-a-glance evaluations of industry activity through rankings and analysis. Consult Volume 5 for national rankings by sales within SIC codes at the 4-digit level; Volume 8 presents these rankings by NAICS codes. Volumes 6 and 7 rank companies in each state by sales within 4-digit SIC codes and provide brief evaluations of industry activity of leading companies for each state.

FedStats - This site provides access to the full range of official statistical information produced by the Federal Government without having to know in advance which Federal agency produces which particular statistic.

International Monetary Fund - The IMF promotes international monetary cooperation and exchange rate stability, facilitates the balanced growth of international trade, and provides resources to help members in balance of payments difficulties or to assist with poverty reduction.

MortgageLoan.com Calculator - An online mortgage resource with over 100 financial calculators.

North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) - This is the standard used by Federal statistical agencies in classifying business establishments for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy.

Statistical Abstract of the United States - The authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States.

 GreenFile  Offers well-researched information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. NASA.gov  NASA’s official website, which gives you access to the latest news, missions and discoveries, as well as comprehensive archive of past missions.  Also features a special “For Students” section with research tools especially for students and information on programs, internships and careers.

Science.gov  Access to over 50 databases and 2100 selected websites from 12 federal agencies, offering 200 million pages of current, authoritative U.S. government information.  Covers areas including applied science, energy, environmental studies, mathematics and more.
