World Cup 2010

The FIFA World Cup 2010 tournament is underway as 32 countries compete for the prestigious title. The championship for this sporting spectacle has been awarded every four years since its inception in 1930. The venue for this year's cup is South Africa, already known for the sound of their Vuvuzela's. 

The Darien Library will be showing a number of games in our Community Room, which is adjacent to the cafe, for you to enjoy in crisp quality on the big screen!

Here is part two of our College Admissions 101 series - Advice for the Student Athlete, held at Darien Library on Thursday, April 22nd at 7pm. Our panel of speakers, which combined coaches, parents of student athletes, and the student athletes themselves, offered great tips for navigating the process of choosing the right school and athletic program, getting recruited, and managing both the acacdemic and extra-curricular responsibilities of an athlete. Take a look at the video below, where you'll also find out why our panelists all agree that being a college athlete, whether in a division or through club teams, is an incredibly fulfilling experience!

Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, The 11th Hour documents grave threats to modern ecosystems, including global warming, deforestation, mass extinctions, and depletion of ocean habitats. 

This is a One Book, One Community event that links modern problems with the theme of environmental stewardship in The Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan and Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse.

The movie is rated PG and the event is for teens aged 12-18.
