Celebrate National Poetry Month with a fun, easy poetry activity. All you need are a newspaper (or magazine or other pages with typed words on them), a pencil, a black marker, and 15 minutes. Creating a blackout poem is as easy as skimming your article or page for words that pop out at you, drawing a box around them with a pencil, then using a black marker to cross off the words you won't need in your poem. As with many poems, less is more, so your poem can have ten words, or even less!
