As a closet mystery reader, I just finished Block's "The Burglar in the Library" which brought many chuckles. A fun mystery read. But I can't believe the library suggested humorous reading list overlooked one of the best mystery spoofs I've ever come across: Jasper Fforde's "The Eyre Affair" in which Tuesday Next searches for the villan responsible for stealing characters out of the classics and people die when book deals go bad. If you haven't read this delightful spoof, you should pick it up.

Hi Connie,
I'm so glad that you enjoyed "The Burglar in the Library". You're absolutely right about the "The Eyre Affair"--it's such a wonderful book. We included it in the Science Fiction/Fantasy section of the Humor Me list, although it belongs in the Mystery section too. It's such a hard book to classify.

Oops - as my sons would say "my bad". Thanks Emily, sorry I missed it in the other genre. Just finished "Getting Mother's Body". Now dead bodies can be funny i.e. the classic movie "Weekend at Bernie"s" and I realize everyone has a different sense of humor, but really, this book was not funny at all. Not sure how you compiled your list, but I found nothing funny in a story about a dirt poor black pregnant 16 yr. old girl going to dig up her mother's grave (who died from a botched abortion) to get jewels to pawn so she can get an abortion. I'd love to hear back from someone who read this and did find it humerous. But there are lots of books out there so I'm on to another.
