Books from Blogs - Blook Winners
The 2007 Lulu Blooker Prize winners have been announced.
The Overall winner and Non-Fiction prize was awarded to My War: Killing Time in Iraq by Colby Buzzell. Colby Buzzell was a machine gunner deployed near Mosul with the 1st Battalion, 23rd Regiment. He began writing the blog to make sense of his experience and it gives a very different picture of the war than what we read in the newspaper or see on TV news.
The Comics winner is Mom's Cancer by Brian Fies which also won the Eisner award this past year. Named after graphic novelist Will Eisner, the Eisner award is considered the "Oscars" of comics. Brian Fies original web version of Mom's Cancer was started in 2005 to deal with the family's struggle with metastatic lung cancer.
