Midwinter Drawing for Autographed Books!

Our annual Adult Summer Reading Program always generates a lot of interest, support, and, of course, reading. Our readers also look forward to the opportunity to win autographed books.

It may be winter, but we have a couple of autographed books that can be won through a drawing on the morning of January 29! January 29 happens to be the publication date for The Reserve, a new novel by Russell Banks, and the Library has a signed copy. Also available will be a signed advance uncorrected proof of Ann Hood’s upcoming memoir, Comfort: A Journey Through Grief.

I just finished reading Eat, Pray Love for a book group and although I found it interesting, I felt that at times she seemed so self-absorbed that I lost interest in the book.

I also read Notes on the Refrigerator Door ( I think that was the title) and while it was a unique format, I found it incredibly sad.

I am now looking forward to starting the new James Patterson book.

I'm reading Robert Kaplan's "Hog Pilots, Blue Water Grunts: The American Military in the Air, at Sea, and on the Ground" which is the second of his books in which he follows the US armed forces around the world as they train, fight, and provide relief services in strange and interesting corners of the world. Worth starting with his first book, "Imperial Grunts," which is more Marines and Army, while his second is mostly Navy and Air Force, but the two stand on their own merits.

I am reading "Suite francaise" from Irene Nemirovski in which she decribes French families fleeing from Paris during World War II. It is beautifully written and we really follow all the characters through the events.

Then I will read another novel by the same author "Fire in the blood".

I also read "Evening" by Susan Minot and I watched the movie made after this book on a first secret love. And "Eat pray love" that I found entertaining. And "Audacity of hope" by Barack Obama.

I have just finished reading "Identical strangers: A Memoir of twins seprated and Reunited" By Elysse Schein and Paula Bernstein.

Before that I read "The Boleyn Inheritance" by Philippa Gregory.

And right now I just started " Atonement" by Ian McEwan.
