So Many Books, So Little Time!!

uncommon.gifcuckoo.gif

I admit it – I have an addiction to books and I don’t want any help. I’m sure there are people out there like me who can’t walk into a library or bookstore without picking something up. My bookcases are full, my bedside table is overflowing and yet I can’t stop bringing books home. My other problem is I am rarely reading one book at a time. I am currently reading People of the Book, Charlie Wilson’s War and Organizing from the Inside Out. (I am reading this to help manage the books I own!)

One of the occupational benefits of working in a library is that you get many wonderful recommendations of what to read next. Also if you are a fanatic like I am you have your favorite Websites or blogs to peruse for more reading suggestions! I love to look at the Booksense website to see their monthly picks and the millionsblog is good reading in and of itself!

So after all that, my current “to be read” list looks like this:

An Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett
Trail of Crumbs: Hunger, Love and the Search for Home by Kim Sunee
The Senator’s Wife by Sue Miller
Every Last Cuckoo by Kate Maloy
Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson
Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson
The Post-Birthday World by Lionel Shriver
Now You See Him by Eli Gottlieb

What’s on your “to be read” list. Let me know and I will probably end up adding it to mine!!

Claudia, you make great recommendations! You actually recommended a few months ago that I read Service Included: Four-Star Secrets from an Evesdropping Waiter by Phoebe Damrosch - and I loved it! It was a funny memoir about working in the fine restaurant business. I can't believe how much training and preparation it takes to make the service seem completely effortless. Thanks for the pick!

Claudia, thanks for the great picks! Try Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen for a quick and simple, yet enchanting, read. My long reading list is now a bit longer thanks to your list! I am especially looking forward to An Uncommon Reader. Thanks again.

Thanks for the reminder Claudia...the days of car trips listening to Harry Potter seem to be a thing of the past. What a great way to get everyone to remove the ear phones from their respective listening devices, and enjoy something TOGETHER.

Claudia -- I, too, am looking forward to An Uncommon Reader. Staying on the England theme, I'll recommend the mysteries of C.S. Harris, which are set in Regency England. Her main character is Viscount Devlin, and you can meet him in book #1, What Angels Fear. Two others books follow and I loved them all. Keep your recommendations coming!

I'm thinking of recommending The Post-Birthday World for my bookgroup. What do you think? What kind of discussion would it initiate?
