What on earth was I thinking?!
Last month, my good friend asked me to go with him to the wedding of his college buddy on Sunday, January 20th. I thought, well, of course I'll go. A beautiful ceremony... friends... dinner... dancing... an excuse to buy a new dress... why wouldn't I want to go? So I accepted the invitation without thinking twice.
How quickly feelings can change! Last weekend, I attended ALA-Midwinter in Philadelphia, and like a true football fan, I still managed to fit in some NFL playoff viewing amidst all of the exhibits, meetings, and events. To my surprise, and to T.O.'s, the Giants beat the Cowboys and the Chargers survived to see another day. WHAT?!
What this all means is that on Sunday, it's the New York Giants versus the Green Bay Packers for the NFC Championships, the San Diego Chargers versus the New England Patriots for the AFC Championships, and me, dressed up for a party while absolutely dreading the fact that I will miss all of the football action leading up to Super Bowl XLII.
Seriously. What on earth was I thinking?!
I suppose I can find solace in the fact that it's not Super Sunday (February 3rd - I've learned my lesson and marked my calendar), but if you are in a similar situation to mine and are searching for some solace of your own, look no further than the Library. We have books on all four remaining teams that will no doubt hold you over until the big game airs in a few weeks.

Erica, I'm sorry you'll be missing Sunday's games. You recommended some great books, especially Run to Daylight! by Vince Lombardi. And of course, we loved meeting Tiki Barber at last spring's Book Expo in New York! I still want to know why he wasn't sitting in Booth #21...

Sorry Erica, but unless there was a cash bar involved I think you made the right choice!

At the risk of getting the hairy eyeball from my mother, the Green Bay fan, I'll go with New York and New England (not that I'll be watching...let me know how it turns out...)

No cash bar (I hope!) but my friend's cell phone gets the Internet. Thank goodness for technology! We'll be checking the score.
By the way, the New Jersey Turnpike has a rest stop named after Vince Lombardi; it's near the George Washington Bridge. Forget about the Super Bowl trophy; a rest stop on a New Jersey highway is respect.

Go Giants!!

Definitely Giants -- Boo Patriots!!

Gotta go with the Giants, since that's my wife's favorite team, and a Giant win gets one Manning brother (the wrong one in my view) to the big game. And, yeah, how can anyone pick the Patriots to lose now?
It'd be interesting to see how successful Vince Lombardi would be in pro football today -- off-the-charts intensity and brains, a take no prisoners style with his players.
So is the dress Giant blue or Green Bay green?

The dress is black, but perhaps blue nail polish?
"Off-the-charts intensity and brains, a take no prisoners style with his players" hmmm...that sounds like Greg Schiano!
(I just had to fit Rutgers football into this post somehow!)

Yes, as a true sports afficionado, I predict a Giants-Patriots Super Bowl! But does that mean I actually have to watch the big game? Just kidding, even I watch the Super Bowl. Let's just hope everyone keeps their clothes on, especially at half-time! :)

I have nothing to add about the football games, as I am not a football fan. Yet I found this back and forth commentary very interesting. Good Blog Erica(B)!!!
