Book-a-Film: The Chronicles of Narnia

Come to our film and book discussion of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe! Read the book beforehand and compare it to the movie. Clips of the movie will be viewed at the book discussion, and there will be snacks!

Sounds of Africa: Rhythm, Dance, and Drumming

Enjoy an interactive, rhythmic experience that includes drumming demonstrations, history of African instruments, and energetic dance.

Wildman Steve Brill

Take a field walk through Holly Pond and discover local plants and wildlife with Naturalist Steve Brill. The Library will provide water and plastic bags for plants. Parents are encouraged to attend.

BookMANIA is back!
BookMANIA is offered for children ages 7 to 9 who love a good story. We'll share a story together, then do activities, games, and even eat snacks around the theme of the book!
Come and ENJOY the fun!
This summer, BookMANIA will meet Thursdays from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. starting on June 29.
No registration required.

Summer Storytimes
Storytimes are back starting next week! Summer storytimes go from June 27th to August 9th. Storytimes are 30 minutes in length, and no registration is required.
Storytimes are for children birth to 6 years.
- Giggles and Rhymes for prewalking babies and a caregiver. Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m.
- Born to Read for walkers up to 24 months and a caregiver. Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.
- Side by Side for children age 2 with a caregiver. Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m.
- Totally Preschool for ages 3 and 4. Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.
- Bookworms for ages 5 and 6. Tuesdays at 4:15 p.m.
- Sleepytime Stories for ages 3 to 5. Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.

Calling All Nutmeggers

Join us on Wednesday, July 12th from 6 - 7 p.m. for a discussion of Nutmeg Nominee Becoming Naomi Leon by Pam Munoz Ryan. Light dinner will be provided. Please read the book before the discussion.
Book description: Naomi and her brother are being raised by their great-grandmother in a trailer park. When her mother reappears after a seven year absence, Naomi struggles to keep her family together and discover her Mexican heritage.

Time to dance!
Music for the Young at Heart comes to the Library on Thursday, July 6th at 11 a.m. for ages 2-6.
Playing guitar and banjo, Robin Greenstein creates a get-involved show for young audiences. Her show features rousing folk and pop lyrics, and sharing rhythm instrument participation. Free tickets distributed 15 minutes prior to performance.

Sleepytime Stories

Sleepytime Storytime is back for the summer! Join us Tuesdays in July beginning July 11 from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Sleepytime is for ages 3 to 5. We'll share stories, flannelboards, games, songs and poems. Don't forget your pajamas! There is no registration required for this program. More information can be found on the Children's website.

Summer Reading
Summer Reading is upon us! Here's what I know:
Middlesex Summer Reading can be found online here. The list is very different from last year and the general idea is to read 3 from the list, and then follow the directions on the Middlesex website. More questions? Ask your teacher.
Darien Public Elementary Reading can be found at:
Grades K-1
Grades 2-3
Grades 4-5
There is also a cover letter and further tips, which may be available on your school's website. All titles are available at the Library, and NUTMEG BOOKS also may be read.
