Every year when the Darien High School Student Art Show goes up here in the Main Reading Room, I am floored by the talent represented. I don't know why I'm surprised. I should know by now that the caliber of the work will be extraordinary. The show just opened late yesterday and will be our Art on View through April 30th.

Jordon hits "The Road"

And we are delighted.

Jordon Pecile returns as our discussion leader as Endings and Endurings: Reading About Ourselves in Our Time, our Spring Book Discussion Series continues. The Road by Cormac McCarthy is the subject of this Sunday's book discussion.

McCarthy_The_Road-thumb.jpg

Jordon considers McCarthy to be "this generation's Hemingway." If you're familiar with Jordon, you'll know this means something; for one thing, it means it'll be a great discussion!

Join on on Sunday at 2:30 as we encounter The Road.

History Boys Left Out in Cold

The_History_Boys_4183_medium.jpg

Last Friday's icy and dangerous weather not only interrupted our Friday Film Series rhythm, it (so rudely!) interfered with our Friday Film Vote. Since we had such a fun go at selecting our winner, I just can't let it go; I'd hate to disappoint such a loyal and supportive audience.

Here's what we're going to do: We will have a special showing of The History Boys on Saturday, April 21st at 7:30 p.m. A quick check in with The Farmer's Almanac alleviates any major weather concerns for the evening.

Cheers!

Free and Prestige-ous

Our film for tonight is The Prestige. We already visited turn-of-the-century Vienna in The Illusionist (which our audience loved); tonight's film leads us to turn-of-the-century London, in this, the second "magical" film of 2006.

This is another great one. I expect there'll be applause in the Program Room again tonight.
