Book Sale at the Darien Library:
Darien Library will hold its Summer Book Sale from 9 a.m. on Friday, June 8 through noon on Monday, June 11. Shoppers will find recent bestsellers, fiction and detective mystery titles, cookbooks, travel books, and biographies, as well as children’s books.
On Friday and Saturday, hard-covered and soft-covered books will be $1 each or 3 for $2. DVDs will be $5, and audio books, CDs, and videos will be $1 each. Paperback books will be $.25 each or five for $1. On Sunday, all items will be half price. Monday will be “Dollar-a-Bag Day.”
Sale items are either donations or Library materials withdrawn from the collection. Because of space constraints, the Library must now withdraw one item for every new one added. Proceeds from the book sale are used to purchase new titles in all formats including books, DVDs, CDs, books on CD, and CD-ROMs.
The sale is open during the Library’s regular hours.
Art Exhibit:
Darien artist Lori Glavin continues to exhibit at Darien Library through June 10.
Ms. Glavin will exhibit oil paintings, collograph prints, and collages, all made using recycled polystyrene. In this exhibit, entitled “Minute by Minute,” the artist’s work explores time – how our days and hours and minutes are divided into equal segments that give structure to our lives. In some work, each minute is represented and in other pieces, the focus is on the emotions of a specific hour or period of day.
Monday Matinee at Darien Library:
Darien Library presents Monday Matinees at 11:30 a.m. Movies will be shown in the Library’s Program Room at 11:30 a.m. Doors open at 11 and refreshments will be served. Admission is free.
