The program, part of the Library’s “Meet the Author” series, will be the first public speaking engagement for Feinstein about his newly published book.
The book, an insider’s look at the game of baseball, is about two veteran New York pitchers, Tom Glavine of the Mets (now of the Atlanta Braves) and Mike Mussina of the Yankees, and their 2007 seasons. “Living on the Black” is a behind-the-scenes look, from a masterful storyteller, at the high stakes, tension, and human drama that make baseball America’s favorite pastime.
John Feinstein is a commentator on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” a regular on ESPN’s “The Sports Reporters,” an essayist for CBS Sports, and known for his color commentary for the United States Naval Academy football games. His writing career includes years on the staff at The Washington Post as well as writing for Sports Illustrated, The National Sports Daily, Inside Sports, Golf, Tennis Magazine, and Basketball America.

The theme of this season's series is "The Political Life in the Modern Novel," and Jordon Pecile is back leading the discussions. Rumpelstiltskin and Snuggle -- What’s that?

Rumpelstiltskin’s my cat and he’s lounging on a snuggle. What’s a snuggle? A snuggle is a knit, crochet, or sewn “blankie” put in the cages of animals in shelters. It makes them feel better and can even help them get adopted.
Come join us on Friday, April 25th from 3 to 5 p.m. when we’ll be knitting snuggles here at the Library.
To register call 655-1234 x117.
For more information, you can ask any one of us in the Children’s Room or follow this link: http://www.snugglesproject.org/
Don’t want to or can’t join us that day? No problem – just drop off your projects in the Children’s Room by June 1st. It’s a great way to get rid of your leftover acrylic or cotton yarn. It doesn’t have to be pretty.
P.S. I’m taking the snuggle I made away from Rump – he’s got a home!

THERE WILL BE BLOOD
Daniel Day-Lewis, Paul Dano; Rated R; 158 minutes; 2007

Daniel Plainview is a turn-of-the-century prospector in Texas who has success in oil. He gets a tip about an abundance of oil in a rural area and picks it up for a steal by misleading the owning family. Daniel is a true sociopath who attempts to crush anyone who will stand in his way in this extreme character study.
LARS AND THE REAL GIRL
Ryan Gosling, Patricia Clarkson, Emily Mortimer; Rated PG-13; 106 minutes; 2007

Lars is a sweet but quirky guy who thinks he’s found the girl of his dreams in a life-sized doll named Bianca. He is content with his artificial girlfriend until he develops feelings for Margo, an attractive co-worker, and becomes lost in a love triangle.
CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR
Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Philip Seymour Hoffman; Rated R; 102 minutes; 2007

This film is based on the true story of Charlie Wilson, an alcoholic womanizer and Texas congressman who persuaded the CIA to train and arm resistance fighters in Afghanistan to fend off the Soviet Union. This effort was a success but the unintended result was an emboldened and empowered Taliban that still impacts the world to this day.

Clear Memory of "Fog"
Libraries are known for quiet, but not necessarily for "Quiet on the set!" Last July, we were the set for a scene in Fog Warning, a film by Christopher Ward, a Connecticut-based film and TV writer and director. Chris has told us that the film is completed and now we get to tell you that we will have a special screening right here on FRIDAY, MAY 9th at 7:30 p.m! This is so exciting! Not only does our current building become immortalized, Erica and I had the thrill of being in the scene. It was an unforgettable experience.
Here are a few pictures from the set:

Chris wrote the script for the film right here in the Library, and he had our Main Reading Room in mind when he wrote the library scene. He will be here for this event and will answer questions from the audience at the conclusion of the film.
We hope that you can join us for this special movie screening! It's sure to be unlike any movie event we've ever had at the Library.
Please note -- according to Chris, "Fog Warning" requires some forewarning -- "The audience should be forewarned that this is an adult suspense-thriller. Although Fog Warning has not been rated, the producers expect it to receive a R rating for language, violence and brief nudity."
