COMING NEXT WEEK:
Darien High School Student Art Show:
April 7 through May 12. The artwork of DHS senior advanced art students will be on display. The students specialize in drawing and painting, silk screen printmaking, photography, and the development of sculptural and functional forms in clay. There will be an artists’ reception on Friday, May 2, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Friday Film Series:
The 2008 Friday Film Series began on Friday, February 8 and runs through April 25. Films are shown in the Program Room. Films begin at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Online Health Information Hands-on Workshop at Darien Library:
An Online Health Information Workshop will be offered on Friday, April 25, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Darien Technology Foundation Center at the Darien Library. Specialists will offer hands-on instruction on finding freely available, high-quality health information. Free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Registration required.

CHILDREN’S ROOM:
Miss Mary:
The Darien Library will offer “Creative Movement with Miss Mary” programs for walkers up to 2 ½ years, and 2½ to four-year-olds.
Join Mary Squicciarino for songs, sing-alongs, and interactive movement with instruments and props on Fridays, May 2, 9, and 16. The program for walkers up to 2 ½ years will be from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m., and the 2 ½ to four-year-olds’ program will be from 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. Sign-up begins Friday, April 11.

Baby Boogie:
The Darien Library will offer “Baby Boogie,” a program for infants ages 8 to 11 months, and “Global Tots” for two to four year olds.
Join dancer Roberta Halperin for movement, dance, and stretches for children and caregivers to share together. “Baby Boogie” occurs on Tuesday, April 15 at 10 a.m. “Global Tots” occurs Tuesday, April 15 at 11 a.m. and Wednesday, April 16 at 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. All classes are 45 minutes in length. Register for one of the classes by calling the Children’s Room, or in person, beginning Monday, March 24.

Play Lingo – Library Bingo:
The Darien Library is pleased to offer “Play LINGO” (Library Bingo) for grades 1 to 5 on Thursday, April 17 at 3 p.m. Register in the Children’s Room.
Participate in a quick bingo lesson and then play traditional bingo. Book-based bingo will also take place…try to get pieces into the shape of an N for Narnia! No prior bingo experience or advanced reading is necessary. Prizes will be awarded.

Snuggle Knit-a-thon:
Knitters of all ages are invited to Darien Library’s “Snuggle Knit-a-thon” on Friday, April 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. Register in the Children’s Room.
Snuggles are security blankets for shelter animals. The Library will donate the finished Snuggles to Connecticut animal shelters for distribution to homeless cats and dogs.
Participants will need size 8 US or size 11 US needles (available from most craft stores). The Library will provide yarn, although participants are encouraged to use their own leftover acrylic yarns to create their Snuggles. Wool and wool blends are not accepted for shelter use.
Knitters who are not able to make the April 25th Knit-a-thon may knit Snuggles at home, and return them to the Darien Library Children’s Room by June 1.

Duct Tape Mania:
Middle School and High School students are invited to attend “Duct Tape Mania” at the Darien Library on Wednesday, April 16th from 3 to 4:30 p.m. during the week of school vacation.
Duct tape is not just for household and electrical uses! Learn to make picture frames, wallets, bookmarks, and jewelry from colorful duct tape. All materials will be provided. Please contact the Children’s Room at 655-1234 x117 to register.
