Food for Fines
![]() |
From Sunday, December 4 to Sunday, December 18, the Darien Library will waive fines for patrons who bring in a non-perishable food item for the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County. The Food Bank provides food to 115 charities and distribution sites serving people in need.
The Darien Library will waive the first ten dollars of fines for the first item donated and will waive five dollars of fines for each additional item. Please bring your donations to the front desk. “Food for Fines” does not apply to fines for lost or damaged items. The Library will happily accept food donations from patrons who do not owe any fines.
“We hope our patrons with fines will take the chance to clear up their accounts while they do a good deed for others”, said Louise Berry, Darien Library director.
The Food Bank especially needs: peanut butter, grape jelly, breakfast cereals, powdered milk, canned chicken, canned tuna, saltine crackers, soups, juices, white rice, canned spaghetti sauce, canned vegetables, pork and beans, and macaroni and cheese.
