More (not second) thoughts
...on Atonement.
My disappointment in this movie is still registering pretty high for me and I think I've figured out why. Through no fault of the actors, director, or any involved -- this tale from the master wordsmith, Ian McEwan, in my opinion, just didn't transfer well. Maybe it's the scope of the story, but frankly, I think it's the McEwan factor. He uses his words so purposefully...so perfectly...he can leave a reader feeling utterly helpless with desire and/or frustration to save/protect/enlighten his richly-drawn imperfect characters. This is what didn't translate for me, and frankly, I don't know if it's even possible.
A for effort, I suppose. And, movin' on...
