Teen Read-a-Thon - January 5
Make the new Library your Library
Read to fund teen materials in the new building
Support the new Library with a Read-a-thon at the Darien Library.
The money raised will fund materials and books in the Teen Center of the new Darien Library.
The Read-a-Thon is open to students grades 6 to 12.
Register, collect sponsors, and come to the Read-a-Thon on Friday, January 5th from 7 to 10 p.m.
Register anytime.
Receive a donor sheet to keep track of donations; all donations should be brought to the Read-a-thon. You'll receive more information when you register.
Rules are simple. Bring any fiction, non-fiction, or graphic novel of your choosing. Snacks will be provided.
Thanks! In appreciation for all your reading and support of the Library, participants will receive a $25 punchcard to reduce Library fines (handed out at the Read-a-Thon). A special thank you to Read-a-thoners will be displayed in the new Darien Library.

Cookie Taste Off
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me. Cookie, cookie, cookie starts with c. Sound familiar? If you're a cookie monster, too, you'll need to stop on over for our Cookie Taste Off. Perform a taste-off and vote on your favorite chocolate chip cookies.

Nutmeg Volunteers Needed
It's fun all around. Teen volunteers are needed to help with our annual quiz show, Nutmeg @ Nite. Here are the dates and times.
Wednesday, January 24th and Thursday, January 25th.
Choose one night from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Grades 7 and up. Teen volunteers will assist librarians with the Nutmeg @ Nite trivia contest.
Register in the Children’s Room or call 655-1234 x117.

Nutmeg Voting
Nutmeg news! You can vote for your favorite 2007 Nutmeg title in the Library all this January. Middle school students can vote for their favorite Nutmeg teen title any time this month. DLCast10 - Episode 1
Our teen podcasting class (You know who you are!) created this amazingly perfect - well, okay, amazingly polished, well, okay, amazingly creative (true!) recording, and I have FINALLY finished editing it and here it is!
So now I must explain.
A podcast is a music or video file on the internet that you can subscribe to (think combination of radio show and magazine subscription). Most of them are chockful of useful or just quirky information and tons of personality.
If you have MyYahoo, or Bloglines, or Itunes, you can subscribe to podcasts and get them delivered to your computer, Ipod, etc. etc. All you need to subscribe is the RSS feed, which is basically the address of the podcast (It's not too bad. For example, the address of Yahoo is http://www.yahoo.com and so the address of a podcast (AKA its RSS) will look something like that except it will end in .rss and you will just copy and paste that address into your reader (MyYahoo, Itunes, Bloglines, etc.) STILL WITH ME?
Good. Back to Darien Library. Our teens created a 3 minute podcast advertising Library events and sharing their ideas and opinions. I mixed all their clips together into one podcast, and here it is! As we only have one episode, you can't subscribe to it yet, but you can listen to it and give us feedback from this, our humble blog. I'll update you with the RSS (Scary acronym; just means address so that I can subscribe) information soon.
