The following is a list of resources available via the Library's subscriptions. Your Darien Library card is needed to use these databases outside the Library building.

Academic OneFile  
Provides articles from leading journals and reference sources. Covers the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other academic subjects.

America's Obituaries & Death Notices (via NewsBank)
NewsBank boasts the largest and most comprehensive collection of newspaper obituaries and death notices.

AP Multimedia Archive  
The AccuNet/AP Multimedia Archive contains approximately 700,000 photos, and is growing daily with hundreds of new photos entering the database each day from around the world. The Multimedia Archive also includes graphics, text, and audio and is updated daily.

Biography and Genealogy Master Index  
Biographical entries contained in more than 1,000 volumes and editions of important current and retrospective biographical reference sources. Citations that point to over 15 million biographies on nearly 5 million people, living and deceased, from all time periods, geographical locations, and fields of endeavor.

Biography Resource Center  
Search the full-text from hundreds of periodicals, as well as tens of thousands of images and links to hand-picked web sites. Search for people---both current and historic from all eras and fields of endeavor---based on name, occupation, nationality, ethnicity, birth/death dates and places, or gender, as well as keyword and full text.

Books in Print | Fiction Connection
Bowker's Books in Print has a database of out-of-print and forthcoming books as well as books in print. Use the Fiction Connection to find books that are similar to those you like, and in the genre you enjoy.

Business and Company Resource Center  
Accurate, up-to-date company and industry intelligence of more than 300,000 companies with company profiles, industry rankings, products and brands, stock prices, investment reports, industry statistics, and more.

Columbia Granger's Poetry Database
Find works of poetry found in anthologies, and volumes of collected works and selected works for individual poets.

CQ Electronic Library
Search six databases for information about all branches of the federal government as well state government, public interest groups, international organizations, and public affairs.

Credo Reference
Keyword search over 240 encyclopedias and dictionaries on art, biography, business, food, geography, medicine, history and more... This is a great place to begin your research!

CultureGrams
Concise and current country and state reports which include maps, statistics, and time lines. Reviews of daily life and culture, including the history, customs, and societies of 181 cultures of the world.

Darien News-Review and The Darien Times (via NewsBank)
Search full-text of local, national, and worldwide newspapers. The Darien News-Review (2001-current), The Darien Times (2004-current), the Hartford Courant (1991-current) and the Connecticut Post (2001-current) are among the newspapers available.

Search three databases for consumer health information appearing in magazines, newspapers, books and pamphlets.

Find full-text articles in over 1,800 magazines and 150 newspapers from around the world.

Encyclopedia Britannica Online
An online version of the entire print encyclopedia. The encyclopedia is updated daily and has special added features including Internet links.

Expanded Academic ASAP  
Search this premier database for research in all the academic disciplines. Contains 1,000 full-text and 6,000 indexed periodical titles.

Facts on File
Facts on File news service has articles back to 1940. Includes maps, issues of international importance, national news, and more. Find answers to questions about events, issues, statistics and people of the last 50+ years.

Gale's Literature Resource Center
Find author biographies and literary criticism.

General Reference Center Gold  
Contains 1,200 full-text titles in general interest magazines, business and industry journals, and reference books.

Health & Wellness Resource Center  
Contains articles from health/medical journals, pamphlets, and general interest periodicals. This database also contains medical dictionaries and encyclopedias and a searchable directory of health organizations.

HeritageQuest  
Trace family history and American culture using searchable images of U.S. federal census records along with the UMI Genealogy and Local History collection catalog.

History Reference Center  
For history buffs, class projects and assignments, this is the first place to look!  Provides articles from magazines, journals, reference and non-fiction books; biographies, documents and speeches; maps and photographs.  Also includes film and video clips of social, political and cultural historical events of the 20th Century from 1893 to 1985.

iCONN Newsstand - ProQuest  
Full-text of the Boston Globe (since 1980), The New York Times (1980 - present), The New York Times (1851-2003), Christian Science Monitor (since 1988), Hartford Courant (since 1992), Hartford Courant (1764-1984), and Wall Street Journal (since 1984).

InfoTrac OneFile  
Includes nearly 3,000 full-text and 6,000 indexed periodical titles from 1980 to the present. Also includes indexing of five major newspapers.

Learning Express Library
Practice Tests for the SAT, GRE, MCAT and many more are available via this subscription database. Sign up using your library barcode and then log in as a returning user the next time. If you are interrupted in the middle of a practice test or course, it is automatically saved and you can return to complete it later.

LegalTrac  
Indexes law reviews, legal newspapers, bar association journals and international legal journals. Also contains law-related articles from business and general interest titles.

Mergent Online
Use this premier resource for in depth business and financial research. Company Data and Annual Reports are available for both U.S. and International companies. (Alternative login for Internet Explorer: requires library barcode)

NewsBank: World Newspapers
Search local, and national and worldwide newspapers. The Connecticut Post (since 2001), the Darien News-Review (since 2001) and the Hartford Courant (since 1991) along with other local papers are available in full-text. The Washington Post and the Christian Science Monitor are also available here.

Locate a book, magazine, dvd, audiobook, or other material in any Connecticut library.

Short Story Index
Wilson's Short Story Index Database is searchable by subject, author, date, title, keyword, and source alone or by any combination. Subjects include narrative technique or device, locale, theme, and genre for pinpoint accuracy.

The Street.com Ratings: Stocks (formerly Weiss ratings)
Search the Weiss Investment Ratings and Reports for stocks by ticker symbol, company name, or industry sector. Get the most up-to-date reports at your convenience, from the library or from home.
