This docudrama depicts the incredible true story of a daring Coast Guard rescue operation off of Cape Cod during a ferocious storm in the winter of 1952. When an oil tanker splits in half, trapping its crew aboard the sinking vessel, four brave Guardsmen set out to save them.

Passport Day

Get your passport at Darien Library! We will process and accept new and renewal applications. We will provide all the paperwork. Passport Photos in Darien can be taken at CVS and Big Shots. Specifications for passport photos can be found here.

What to Bring: Birth Certificate, Naturalization Certificate, one color 2’’ by 2’’ photo, a valid photo identification (such as a driver’s license) with a front and back photocopy of the ID, and personal check/money order or debit/credit card for payment of the passport fee.

Minors under age 16 cannot apply for a passport by themselves.  Both parents/guardians must appear in person and provide consent, authorizing passport issuance to the minor.  If one parent/guardian is unable to appear in person, then the application must be accompanied by a signed, notarized Form DS-3053: Statement of Consent from the non-applying parent/guardian.  More information on passports for minors can be found here.

Tuesday, May 31, Self-Assessment/Business Plan - Learn about the risk and reward of starting a business in today's competitive marketplace. The traits of successful entrepreneurs will be discussed for the purpose of assessing one'e innate and acquired ability to start and manage a successful business. The session will also focus on structuring a dynamic plan.

Tuesday, June 7, Marketing Strategy & Research - Learn the importance of market research and planning to start-up and build a competitive and successful business. Emphasis will be on sound market positioning of a small business's products or services within its target market that will enhance profitable sales and success.

Tuesday, June 14, Website & Social Media Marketing - This session focuses on the current online marketing tools available for start-up and operating businesses. Proven providers of website design/marketing programs and of social media marketing tools will help navigate your business to the proper balance of a website and social media marketing strategies for your business.

Tuesday 21, Financial Reporting & Planning - This presentation reviews a business's key financial statements and walks the participants through the development of a comprehensive financial plan. The importance of understanding the key financial drivers of the business will be a center-piece of the discussion.

Tuesday, June 28, Funding Sources/Conversation with Entrepreneurs - Learn how the funding structure required for start-up businesses today, including a presentation from lending sources specializing in start-up and small businesses. Includes discussion and Q&A with SCORE mentored, start-up business entrepreneurs

Friday Night Feature - 'Concussion'

Friday,  June 3rd at 6:30 and 8:45p.m. - Concussion (2015) Starring Will Smith, Stephen Moyer, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Alec Baldwin, Eddie Marsan, Luke Wilson; Rated PG-13; 123 minutes; Presented with Captions for the hearing impaired.

Filmmaker Peter Landesman (Parkland) wrote and directed this sports-themed drama based on Jeanne Marie Laskas' GQ article "Game Brain," about the potentially horrific cost of playing football. Pittsburgh-based neuropathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu (Will Smith) discovers a degenerative brain disease now known as CTE in the autopsies of several deceased pro-football players, but after presenting his research, he finds himself under fire from the NFL.
