Wednesday, August 5th at 6:30 p.m. - Beats of the Antonov (2014); NR; 68 minutes.

Docs and Discussion is our new film discussion series meant to inspire thoughtful conversation on a global topic.

Sudan has been in an almost constant state of civil war since it achieved independence in 1956, and it split into a pair of sovereign states in 2011. On the border between the two, Russian-made Antonov planes indiscriminately drop bombs on settlements in the Nuba Mountains below. Yet, incredibly, the people of the Blue Nile respond to adversity with music, singing and dancing to celebrate their survival. Beats of the Antonov explores how music binds a community together, offering hope and a common identity for refugees engaged in a fierce battle to protect cultural traditions and heritage from those trying to obliterate them

For more information, please watch the film's trailer. Check out what else we're screening.

This event is a collaboration with POV, the award-winning independent non-fiction film series on PBS. Beats of the Antonov premiers on PBS Monday, August 3rd.

Business Book Group: 'Work Simply: Embracing The Power Of Your Personal Productivity Style'

Wednesday, August 12th at 6 p.m., at The Goose, 972 Post Road

Join us for the next meeting of our Business Book Group as we discuss Carson Tate's Work Simply: Embracing The Power Of Your Personal Productivity StyleThe group is invited to an informal discussion of the book from 6 - 6:45 p.m. followed by networking over wine, beer, and light refreshments.

About Work Simply: Embracing The Power Of Your Personal Productivity Style

Your time is under attack. You just can't get enough done. You find yourself wondering where the hours go. You've tried every time-management system you can get your hands on-and they've only succeeded in making your work more complicated. Sound familiar? If you sometimes feel you spend more time managing your productivity than doing actual work, it's time for a change. In Work Simply, renowned productivity expert Carson Tate offers a step-by-step guide to making work simple again by using the style that works best for you. Tate has helped thousands of men and women better manage their time and become more productive. Her success owes partly to the realization that most of us fit into one of four distinct productivity styles: Arrangers, who think about their projects in terms of the people involved; Prioritizers, who are the definition of "goal-oriented"; Visualizers, who possess a unique ability to comprehend the big picture; and Planners, who live for the details. In this book, you'll learn how to identify your own productivity style as well as the styles of those around you-bosses, coworkers, staff, and family. After reading Work Simply, you'll come away with a productivity system that truly and fundamentally fits you-and you'll never feel overwhelmed again.

We have copies of the book available for patrons to borrow, but prior reading of the books is not necessary to attend the discussion.
