Shakespeare would have been 442 years old on Sunday!
In honor of The Bard's Big Day, our video pick of the week is Kiss Me Kate, starring Katherine Grayson and Howard Keel.
In this re-telling of "The Taming of the Shrew" Fred and Lilly, are a divorced couple reunited by Cole Porter to star in his muscial version of the play. When a fight between the two threatens the production on opening night, sparks fly.
Not only does this movie have the music of Cole Porter, it has Bob Fosse choreography, and Anne Miller singing, "Too Darn Hot". Honestly, what more could one want?
Happy weekend!

Spring has sprung
and the Desketeer's thoughts are turned to their gardens.
Our video pick of the week is, "Greenfingers". This fictional story is actually based on a 1998 article that appeared in the New York Times. In it, Paula Dietz focused on the true gardening adventures of some British prisoners.
When Colin (Clive Owen) is placed in an expiremental program to finish his prison sentence, he just wants to be left alone. But then he and fellow prisoner Fergus (David Kelly) plant some seeds in the prison yard, he is introduced to a new world and life beyond the prison walls.
The Desketeers have long been aware of the restorative powers of scratching in the dirt and watching things grow. So, even though it is supposed to be cold and rainy, we know that more great gardening weekends are in our future.
Happy Weekend!

Dear God what were they thinking???!!!

Yes, that is an actual wedding party. My fellow Desketeers want you to notice that they have their backs to us. They have the good sense to be ashamed.
Also, they (the Desketeers) want you to know that this is not the only wedding party sporting them.
Ever since You Can Wear It Again: A Celebration of Bridesmaids' Dresses has come in we are spending every spare moment compulsively flipping through and sharing our own stories of outfits that we had thrust upon us or that we thrust upon others. I for one am amazed that anyone in my wedding party still speaks to me.
Consider this slim volume cautionary if planning a wedding anytime soon. And remember, wings are never a good idea.

While it is an obvious choice
our movie pick of the week is Easter Parade the 1948 classic starring Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, and Anne Miller.
When MIller abandons the dance act that she and Astaire founded, he finds a new partner in Garland. Hmmm. We all should be so lucky with misfortunes like that!
With music from Irivng Berlin and iconic dance numbers this is one that should be watched, and not just at Easter!
Just a reminder, we will be open tomorrow our regular hours (9-5), but we are closed on Sunday.
Have a happy holiday!
