Joanna Eberhart: When you come back, there will be a woman with my name and my face, she'll cook and clean like crazy, but she won't take pictures and SHE WON'T BE ME!

The Stepford Wives is our Circ de Cinema pick of the week.

When Walter and Joanna Eberhart move the family from Manhattan to Stepford the social climate seems to be a bit on the odd side. Wives seem to be concerned only with domestic tasks and pleasing their husbands. Is there something funny in the water? Or are those women a whole lot less than human? And where do the husbands fit into the picture?

This week's Circ de Cinema pick of the week is dedicated to Emily, our Honorary Desketeer and Louise Berry Fellow who is leaving us today for the wilds of New Hampshire. For the last two years Em has been a willing and cheerful team player, always ready to go where needed at a moments notice with a smile and a positive attitude. We are going to greatly miss her but we wish her and her husband Greg well on their fresh start.

Happy Weekend and Bon Voyage Em!

Sometimes when you travel,

in a physical sense, what you see makes you want to travel mentally and learn more about what you have just seen.

This very thing happened to me this weekend. I was lucky enough to be in Lenox Massachusetts and was able to pay a visit to The Mount the beloved home of Edith Wharton. Seeing this beautiful place which was so important to one of our great American voices made me want to know more about her than what I already did.

Luckily for me, the definitive biography was published this spring. Edith Wharton by Hermoine Lee is a wonderful look at the life of a very unique woman. Wharton was truly a Renaissance woman with interests ranging far past just literature.

So for the next few days I will be revisiting my wonderful weekend and putting a new spin on what I saw by learning more about the remarkable woman who lived there.

Neely O'Hara: "I have to get up at five o'clock in the morning and SPARKLE, Neely, SPARKLE!"

Jacqueline Susann would have been 89 years old this week and so to honor her memory our Circ De Cinema pick of the week is the 1967 "classic" Valley of the Dolls!

When Anne Welles ( Barabara Parkins) leaves her small New England town for the bright lights and big city of Manhattan she meets up with two other young hopefuls, Jennifer North (Sharon Tate) and Neely O'Hara (Patty Duke). From Broadway to Hollywood the three women discover that fame and fortune may not be the road to happiness, but the highway to hell frought with pills, booze and sex.

It doesn't get campier or trashier than this one. The perfect movie to enjoy on a hot steamy August night. A true Desketeer favorite!

So pour a cold one, sit back and ponder the wisdom of our heroine Anne Welles: " You've got to climb Mount Everest to reach the Valley of the Dolls."

Happy Weekend!

Here they are again, folks! These wonderful, wonderful kids! Still struggling! Still hoping! As the clock of fate ticks away, the dance of destiny continues! The marathon goes on, and on, and on! HOW LONG CAN THEY LAST!

It's back! The Circ de Cinema pick of the week! Not that there was any demand for it, the Desketeers just enjoy it.

So it's Friday afternoon and it's been a very long week and you think that you are dog tired. Honey, you aren't even close.

Our pick for this week is Sidney Pollack's 1970 classic, They Shoot Horses Don't They?.

It's the Depression in America. An emotionally fragile Gloria (Jane Fonda) and a desperate Robert (Michael Sarazzin) partner up and enter a dance marathon in order to win a cash prize and a chance at stardom. Will it be their redemption or the end to their dreams? Gig Young won the best supporting actor Oscar for his role as the smarmy master of ceremonies.

So turn up the A/C, put up those tired feet and relax. It has been a long week, but you really aren't as tired as you think you are.

Happy Weekend!
