Watch and discuss a book turned into a movie. Enjoy the film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, which is based on C.S. Lewis' book The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The film will be followed by a discussion of the book. The film is rated PG, running time 145 minutes. Ages 8 and up. Open to all (no registration necessary).

Can you eat a tarantula? How about a cricket? Find out what is edible, the difference between venom and poison and meet some animals who love eating insects.

 We will all have the opportunity to taste some of these incredible edible insects!

Grades K and up.

There will be food served at this event.

Join us for the 5th annual Stuffed Animal Sleepover. Bring one of your stuffed animals to a special evening storytime and have them sleep over in the Children's Library. Pick them up the next day and discover what happens "when the library lights go out."

Early Literacy Text Messages From Your Librarians

We know you’re busy! We also know your little one is growing up fast and you want to make sure you’re helping them gain early literacy skills. So, why don't you sign up for our weekly early literacy texts to get easy tips sent right to your phone? It’s totally free (though standard messaging rates apply), and is a service of Darien Library. Your librarians will send a text every Monday with something simple you can integrate into your daily life that will help prepare your child (under 5 years old) for reading and writing.

Text messages will begin the first day of Registered Storytimes and last for the duration of the session.

We also offer the text messages in Spanish! We will contact you by follow-up email and you can select Spanish as an option.
