One of our most popular summer storytimes is Stories by the Sea, a family storytime for all ages at Darien’s Weed Beach Park

This program is co-sponsored by the Darien Parks and Recreation Department.

Summer Book Clubs

Jr. Book Club 

Early elementary readers are invited to share their thoughts on some of the booktalking selections for this year. The discussion will be followed by an activity, game, or craft inspired by the story. Drop-in. Grades 2 to 3.

August 5th: Phoebe G. Green: Lunch Will Never be the Same by Veera Hiranandani and Joelle Dreidemy

R.W.D. (Read. Watch. Discuss) 

Watch and discuss these books turned into movies. In the Louise Parker Berry Community Room. Drop-in. Ages 9 to 12

Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m.

July 23rd: Hoot by Carl Hiaasen. Rated PG. (Running time 90 minutes.)

August 20th: Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Patterson and Donna Diamond. Rated PG. (Running time 96 minutes.)

Poetry in Motion is a revival of the almost lost art of performing poetry. This exhilarating tour de force brings to life the best of poetic literature. Doran Hamm will introduce a cast of characters drawn from the world’s best children’s poems. The audience participates actively on the journey. 

Ages 5 to 12.

Join Amanda Blake as she teaches the history of Hula Hooping and dazzles us with her hula hoop prowess.

Ages 5 and up.

Toddler Tales  Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. - Walkers up to 36 months

Baby Laptime  Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. - Pre-walking babies

Preschool Time  Fridays at 9:30 a.m. (previously on Monday at 1:30 p.m.)

Lights, Camera, Action! : Summer Reading Registration Begins June 8

Registration for the Summer Reading Club begins June 8! Make sure to pick up your book prize in the Children's Library when you sign up.

Summer Reading Club - for kids who are reading on their own

Log your reading hours on our online log by logging in and updating your Star Log every time you read! The Summer Reading Club automatically enters you into the grand prize lottery for every 5 hours you read. The lottery winners will be announced at our Finale Party on Monday, August 17.

 

Read to Me Club - for kids who are being read to

Come and pick up your log at the Library and write down every book you read. For every ten books, come into the Library to get a stamp and a free book (up to 3 free books total).
