The American Library Association's Youth Media Awards were announced this morning, Monday, January 27th at 8 a.m. EST!

These awards include the Caldecott Medal (for distinguished illustrations), the Newbery Medal (for distinguished children's book writing), the Sibert Award (for distinguished non-fiction), and the Geisel (for distinguished books for beginning readers).

The Newbery Award went to two-time winner (and 2014 National Ambassador of Young People's Literature) Kate DiCamillo for her marvelously funny Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures. Darien Library favorite Doll Bones, by Holly Black, was one of four books to receive a Newbery Honor.

The Caldecott Award went to the beautifully detailed Locomotive, by Brian Floca. Three books were honored, including the luminously illustrated Journey, by Aaron Becker.

You can put the complete list of winners on hold, or stop by the Children's Library and see what's available!
