On Monday, December 9th, Miss Elisabeth and Miss Krishna visited The Original Art show, which is an annual exhibition of art created for children's books. The show is hosted at the Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators in New York City.
The juried show is in its 34th year, and features art hand-selected by a committee of industry veterans and artists. This year's jury included Brian Floca! The show awards prizes to the best art created for a children's book in a given year. This year awards went to The Dark, illustrated by Jon Klassen, and Barbed Wire Baseball, illustrated by Yuko Shimizu, among others.
Entries from 3 of the 4 illustrators who visited Darien this fall (Frank Viva, Oliver Jeffers, and Peter Brown) make this exhibit of special interest to Darienites, and it is truly amazing to see such beautiful artwork up close. The idea that the gorgeous painting you're seeing on the wall is the same picture you have in a book at the library is both mind-boggling and wonderful.
The exhibit runs through December 21st. More information can be found here. We can't recommend it highly enough!
