Most of you know Krishna Grady, who for the past two years has been the Harold W. McGraw fellow here in the Children's Library at Darien.  The fellowship is a two-year Children's Librarian opportunity for a children's librarian who has recently graduated from library school, and people from all over the country apply to work in this special library.  Two years have passed, and lucky for us, Krishna is staying on as Coordinator of Children's Programs!

We are happy to welcome the 2014-2016 Fellow this month - Lisa Nowlain. Lisa was born in San Francisco, CA and has driven from California all the way to Connecticut this month - with her husband, her cat Risso, and most of her belongings packed in the car!  Lisa became a librarian after returning from her time Laos, where she was giving art and mural workshops.  She realized that in her next job, she wanted to connect people with ideas, information, and each other in the heart of a community.  And so she went to librarian school in San Jose, CA!

Lisa is half Swedish and grew up eating a lot of potatoes, pancakes, and lingonberry jam, and speaks Swedish with her mom and grandparents.  She loves Pippi Longstocking because she is extraordinarily silly and a swashbuckling adventurer - most of Astrid Lindgren's books are her favorites.  She also loves books about edible wild plants and Neil Gaiman's creepy books make her a little afraid of the dark (but she reads them anyway).

Lisa has said, "If there's one thing about Darien that makes me the most excited, it's the TEA room! I can't wait to make art with kids and their families."  Lisa is also very excited about the giant printer in the Small Office Home Office center and the fact that she gets to read books, sing songs, play with iPads, and brainstorm how to support Darien's children with talented librarians - for her job!
