Little GiantsEver since childhood, nerdy Danny O'Shea (Rick Moranis) has felt inferior to his brother, Kevin (Ed O'Neill), a former college football star. When the youth football team Kevin coaches rejects Danny's daughter, Becky (Shawna Waldron), because she's a girl, Becky convinces her dad to start a rival team, though the city can support only one. To prove himself against his brother, Danny begins coaching his team of misfits for a playoff game. Watch the Trailer. Rated PG, running time 107 minutes. 

Beauty and the Beast. An arrogant young prince and his castle's servants fall under the spell of a wicked enchantress, who turns him into the hideous Beast until he learns to love and be loved in return. The spirited, headstrong village girl Belle enters the Beast's castle after he imprisons her father Maurice. With the help of his enchanted servants, including the matronly Mrs. Potts, Belle begins to draw the cold-hearted Beast out of his isolation. Watch the Trailer. Rated G, running time 90 minutes.

What will win the Newbery Award in 2017? Your Newbery Visionary can cast their vote for Darien Library's pick!

Newbery Visionaries is a registered book group which welcomes all book lovers and critical thinkers in grades 5-7.

Participants will learn all about the Newbery Award, the oldest and most distinguished Children's Book Award in the world.

Kids will be given potential 2017 Newbery Award books to read and asked to use their critical thinking skills at monthly meetings to debate which books deserve to win the biggest prize of all. It all culminates in a party in January where Darien's Newbery Visionaries vote for their own choice for the 2017 Newbery Award!

Dinner will be served at each meeting. Participants will be expected to attend each meeting. 

Registration is a lottery. Register by Monday, February 15th. 

First Meeting: Monday, February 22nd at 5 pm

Miss Lisa - our resident artist with a B.A. in Studio Art - will lead a very special workshop on portraiture. Create portraits of African American luminaries with Miss Lisa during this afternoon program.

From gaming to cloud computing, technology has shaped the ways that we connect and communicate. Join us for stimulating discussions, hands-on classes, and more.

Interested participants can sign up to receive a weekly email during the duration of the Tech Series to further their knowledge and learn more about technology.  Emails will be sent on Mondays, beginning January 18 and concluding on March 14. There will be no email the week of February 15.
