Louise Parker Berry Fellowship
at the Darien Library

January 15 , 2007

Dear Applicant:

We welcome your interest in the Louise Parker Berry Fellowship.

In 2004 the Board of Trustees of the Darien Library announced the formation of a Fellowship to celebrate Louise Berry's twenty-five years as Director. The Fellowship provides a succession of two-year full-salaried positions for recent Master in Library Science recipients who

  • demonstrate exemplary scholarship
  • show significant leadership promise
  • can be expected to extend the ideals that Louise Berry has championed throughout her career — fairness, friendship, overwhelmingly high standards of personal ethics, and a constant desire to provide library service to patrons and community beyond their expectations.

The Library's Trustees are pleased to provide this opportunity to join what we think is one of the finest libraries in the United States, to work with our accomplished staff and, especially, to receive the mentorship of Louise Parker Berry, an extraordinary librarian and the keystone of Darien Library's successful partnership with our community.

We would like an opportunity to describe Darien Library to you, to outline the opportunities and challenges that will be faced by the successful applicant, and to answer any questions you have about the Fellowship.

If you are considering an application, but wish to contact us for additional information, you may do so by emailing us at fellowship@darienlibrary.org.

Sincerely yours,

George U. Wyper
President, Louise Parker Berry Fellowship
