Saturday, April 25, at 10 a.m. we will launch the R.E.A.D. program at Darien Library.

 What is R.E.A.D. ?

R.E.A.D. stands for Reading Education Assistance Dogs. It is a program that partners therapy dogs with kids to encourage reading and improve literacy skills.

Dogs are great listeners and provide a warm, friendly, and non-judgmental presence for early readers.

Kids who are early readers or independent readers are welcome to attend the first R.E.A.D. open house this Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. You will learn more about R.E.A.D. and have the opportunity to meet with Brasil (our R.E.A.D. dog) and his owner, Mr. Don Smith. Brasil is a certified therapy dog through the Delta Society.

Starting in May, readers will be able to sign-up for 20 minute sessions with our R.E.A.D. dog and their handler to practice reading in the Children's Library. Registration information will be announced shortly.
