What is "Reference" anyway? In a library, Reference is an area where you can get a quick answer to a specific question like, "What does _____ mean?"  or "Where is ______ located?."  This kind of information can be found either in a book in the library or online through the internet.  Here are some good resources the library has chosen that you can use anytime of day or night from home! Encyclopedias can be the best place to start when doing homework. They give you a good overview of your subect, links to more information, photos, maps and even a citation!  That'll make your teacher happy!


 

Almanacs - Almanacs are like a snapshot of a country taken each year.  They provide data and statistical information like when the sun rises and sets, weather, presidents for countries around the world. 

Atlases - Atlases will provide you with information and illutrations about countries and states around the world.

Dictionaries - Need to know how to spell a word or discover what it means? Look it up in a dictionary! It will also tell you how to pronounce it, the history and how to use it in a sentence.

Encyclopedias - These are either a collection of general information about a wide range of subjects or comprehensive information about one subject.
