Darien Library will waive fines for patrons who bring in non-perishable food items for the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County. The Food Bank provides food to 115 charities and distribution sites serving people in need.

The Library will waive the first $10 of fines for each box or can of food donated and $5 dollars of fines for each additional can or box. “Food for Fines” does not apply to fines for lost or damaged items. The Library will happily accept food donations from patrons who do not owe any fines. We will accept new items in good condition in the original packaging.

Take this chance to clear up your account while you do a good deed for others.

The Food Bank especially needs: peanut butter, grape jelly, juices, breakfast cereal, macaroni and cheese, and canned pasta (like Chef Boyardee.) Please, no expired items!
