LibraryCampEast 2006

John Blyberg and Ed Vielmetti organized the first LibraryCamp at Ann Arbor District Library in April 2005; I attended and thought it hit just the right balance between content and informality. What I most appreciated was the opportunity to engage in some substantive discussion (I contributed very little of the substance, for sure) with a number of the leading lights in the Library 2.0 movement, as well as hear about the steps being taken to wrench Webpacs off their moorings on our Integrated Library Systems and into Web 2.0 compliance.

Almost immediately I started working on John (and Casey Bisson) to get them to agree to put together Library Camp East at Darien Library. They agreed, and as John has posted, this will take place on Monday, September 25. We are looking forward to acting as host to those who will attend.

How do you know if you would like to take part? Well, if you want to hold a day of conversation and exploration of the next steps libraries are taking to open up their catalogs, web sites and other resources through the use of technology, thus allowing a greater responsiveness to users, if you want to clarify your understanding of what some of the Library 2.0 leaders are doing, and especially if you want to try out some of your own ideas, you'll want to be in Darien on the 25th.

A number of people have signed up already, and we know of more who are coming. We hope to see you, too.
