Check out this great article by DHS student Samantha Wood!
And what she writes is true: "If you are interested in joining or learning more about the teen committee, or have any questions about the new teen section, please contact sludwig@darienlibrary.org." I'd love to hear from you!
I visited the new library today and the teen room is going to be aMAYzing. I can't wait wait wait to get there.

Have you seen Amazon’s new portable reading device, the Kindle? Just last week, talk show host Oprah Winfrey named the Kindle as her favorite new gadget. Ms. Winfrey cited the Kindle's wireless connectivity, paperless platform, and competitive per-title pricing as the primary reasons for her enthusiastic support. About the size of a paperback book, the Kindle can hold over 200 digital books, newspapers, magazines, and/or blog posts. The Darien Library invites you to stop in and take a look at our Kindle. We have predownloaded several recent titles, as well as a daily subscription to the New York Times. And, we have a complete, printed version of the Kindle User's Guide for your easy reference. Why not come in and see what the Kindle is all about. Interested? Just call Judy Sgammato at 655-1234 x136 or send her an email at jsgammato@darienlibrary.org and let her know when you'd like to stop by.
See you soon!

Limelife is a mobile site just for girls.
Brightsorm offers online resources to help you with your classes, including AP courses. Urban Dictionary, an old favorite, is worth mentioning because it's where you can contribute your own slang. For example: DEFACE: To remove a 'friendship' from facebook due to having either accidentily adding him/her as a friend or actually adding them and reconsidering later. "Yeah, there was this guy in my network who added me. I thought he looked ok, but his updates were really cramping my news feed, so I had to deface him." "I went on a date with a girl I met a week before and like the day after our date she changed her status to 'in a relationship.' I defaced her."

The first book in the Gemma Doyle trilogy is being made into a movie, as you may know. It's coming out in 2010. The author, Libba Bray, has some movie news in her blog:
"NOTHING HAS BEEN CAST. NOTHING. DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT YOU READ ON THE INTRAMANETS." She wrote this on October 10, so I think that even though IMDB has people listed in the three main female roles, we should ignore that. However, that doesn't mean we can't speculate!!! Who would make the best Gemma? The best Anne? Felicity? Kartik? Get the books and audiobooks here -- they're some of my favorites.

Twitter is fun because it's like blogging in text messages. It's a super fast and easy way of letting your friends know where you are, what you're doing, or what you're thinking about. It's actually a lot like the "status update" feature on Facebook. I like it because I can connect with my friends who live in other parts of the world.
If you have a Twitter account, make me your friend! This is obvs not my personal Twitter account, but it IS where you will find out info about the Darien Library, new books, new movies, new interesting websites, etc. It's also a great way to get in touch with me. Add add add!!

GLSEN and the Ad Council have a new campaign out there to try to wipe out the phrase "that's so gay," which they say has been written online 80,100 times as of today! Visit their website to come up with your own "that's so..." phrase. (My favorite so far? "That's so FAIL.")
