Darien Library will offer 3 college prep courses this fall for high school students and their parents, in cooperation with Kaplan.
College Admissions 101
Thursday, September 11 from 6 to 8 p.m.
This seminar is designed to show students and parents what college admissions officers expect from applicants' high school experiences. Kaplan staff will cover a variety of admissions policies, the seven factors in college admissions, and key questions to consider when choosing a college.
Personal Statement 101
Thursday, September 25 from 6 to 8 p.m.
This seminar is designed to show students and parents the key elements that make a personal statement noticeable to college admissions officers. Kaplan staff will examine the types of essay topics students will encounter, cover the four steps to a winning essay, and critique a sample essay.
SAT Essay Seminar
Thursday, October 9 from 6 to 8 p.m.
In addition to a free essay practice run under timed conditions that simulates the actual testing environment, staff from Kaplan will provide advice to help students score higher, including how to recognize what the essay graders want and inside strategies on writing high-scoring essays. Students will receive their graded essays following the session, to help them adjust their preparation accordingly.
As an added bonus, all attendees will receive $150 off any Kaplan classroom course and $200 off Kaplan tutoring.
