Due to a rise in COVID cases, masks are required when visiting the Library building.

We offer audiobooks in three formats: as CDs, MP3 Playaways (for children), and digital e-Audiobooks. Most of the audiobooks are located on the Main Level in front of the Frosty Bear Cafe. Children’s audiobooks and Playaways are located within the Children’s Library on the left when you come in the door. Digital e-Audiobooks can be downloaded from our digital collection.

Digital Books

e-Books allow the reader to resize the text to a more comfortable reading size. You may access e-Books on your computer or on a mobile device. Just visit the app store and download OverDrive's Libby app. You will need your Darien Library card. Search our catalog for e-Books

Aside from having accessible parking in front of the Library, we also have a wheelchair available. Just ask at the Front Desk for it.

Bathrooms are available on every level of the Library. Each bathroom is wheelchair accessible. Emergency pull strings to call for help are located in all bathrooms. For the Main Level, the string is located in the biggest stall.

We Deliver

Darien Library offers residents home-bound delivery. Staff will deliver books, movies, magazines, and audiobooks for those who cannot visit the Library in person.

Volunteers will deliver borrowed items to your home and will also return them to the Library.

To request a delivery, call Pat at 203-669-5248.

Large Print Books

The Large Print Books collection is located on the Main Level by the fireplace. The books include popular fiction and non-fiction. Digital books’ text size can be changed, so ask at the Front Desk about e-Books.

This collection is made possible thanks to the Anne R. Ferguson Large Print Book Fund, a generous endowment given to the capital fund by Eric Ferguson.

Magnifier with Screen

The portable magnifier magnifies text onto a 7-inch screen. The new tool is easy to use, and can assist readers in several different ways. Place it on the document or hold it over the document and follow the text with a little camera. Ask for this device at the Reference Desk on the Second Level.

Ask at the Front Desk for a magnifying glass to use during your library visit.

The elevator is located in the center of the Library.
