About the Artist

Mark Maybell is a third generation photographer. Mark grew up in the small town of Sparta, Illinois where his father had a photography studio on the main street. His great grandfather operated a photography studio nearby in East St. Louis, Illinois.

Mark started photographing in earnest in 2010 when he acquired a Canon 5D Mark ii to videotape his son's lacrosse games. He discovered that he enjoyed giving photos away to other parents. An outlet for his photography presented itself in 2012, when Mark and others in Darien founded the Darien Athletic Foundation (DAF). Mark has donated over 60,000 photos to the DAF.

Mark's career has been at the intersection of media and technology, as an investment banker, venture capitalist, philanthropist, a student of and collector of contemporary art and member of the TED community for over 20 years.
