The Basics of Chess, Part I

Learn a new hobby in the new year, join DIG Chess in learning how to play chess. DIG Chess coaches will cover beginner level chess content. Students will learn development and controlling the center and tempo. Learn, improve, and enjoy chess with us!

If you are joining this program, it is recommended that you also attend Part II.

About the Coaches

Dan Starbuck Pelletier founded DIG Inc, with the goal to create educational opportunities for all people. Providing private and group lessons in a variety of genres, including soccer and chess. Dan has helped many players improve their fundamentals, fitness, & attitude.

Coach Dan is a fully-licensed soccer coach, having earned the NSCAA Premier Diploma. Additionally, he earned a master’s degree from the Gabelli School of Business, Fordham University. Coach Dan is also the General Manager for Bridgeport United Football Club.

Alvin Hamilton teaches Geometry, Algebra 2, and Statistics and coaches the chess club at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, CT. Prior, Alvin taught at Wooster School in Danbury and served as Math Chair, Director of Studies, and Academic Dean. He earned a B.A. in mathematics with minors in physics, chemistry, and Germanic languages from the University of Pennsylvania.
