What is the fastest growing threat to the health of Darien residents? How does the health of Darien residents compare with that of the US, or Connecticut?

Come to our upcoming presentations to learn about current health trends in town and how we compare with local communities and the State of CT. Over the span of three sessions, the Darien Health Department, along with renowned guest speakers, will present results of a year-long study of data related to health issues and trends in Darien.

Week 2: Substance Abuse, Impacts and Consequences

Raul Pino, MD, MPH, Commissioner of the CT Dept. of Public Health David Knauf, Director of Health – “What is an epidemic?” Duane Lovello, Darien Chief of Police – Police activity and local impact Joseph Russo, MD, and Maud Purcell – “Saved From Addiction, Inc.” innovative treatment options Alan Mathis, President & CEO, Liberation Programs, Inc. Gary Morello - Associate Minister at the Darien Congregational Church will discuss acceptance and transformation

Following, Malcolm Jauval Spears, Jr. will share his struggle with addiction as told in his book Biggie's Chronicles. The winner of Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness Slogan Contest will be announced as well.
