Darien Library (CT) is seeking a friendly, energetic, dedicated self-starter with excellent reference and technology skills to provide extraordinary customer service and technology support to library users.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Staff an active reference desk
  • Oversee activity in the adult research, magazine, and quiet study areas
  • Assist patrons with print and digital resources
  • Maintains a current knowledge of the Library‚Äôs electronic resources including databases and links from the Research page
  • Assist patrons with computer hardware and software, including printers and scanners
  • Opening / closing procedures for the adult research, magazine, and quiet study areas
  • Other duties as assigned


  • MLIS degree or a degree-in-progress at an ALA-accredited library sciences or information sciences graduate program is preferred
  • Excellent customer service and instructional skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts in simple, easy-to-understand terms.
  • Clear and direct oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especialy Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Bilingual candidate, or those with functional knowledge of another language, is desirable


This is a part time position with no benefits that will include weekdays, evenings, and up to two weekends per month. Candidate must be prepared to work up to 10 hours per week, but will not exceed 29 hours per week.


$20 to $25 an hour, and is commensurate with experience
