Part-Time Human Resources Manager

Darien Library seeks a Human Resources Manager to administer and oversee a range of human resources responsibilities including employee recruitment and hiring, onboarding and off-boarding, records and compliance, benefits, and personnel management. The Human Resources Manager is a people-focused, fair-minded, and efficient administrator who reports to the Library Director. This is a part-time position of 20 to 30 hours per week.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages the employee lifecycle, from recruitment, interviewing, and hiring to on-boarding, orientation, and off-boarding.
  • Manages benefits administration, including enrollment and updates.
  • Supports an inclusive culture and commitment to a work environment free from discrimination and harassment.
  • Deploys the bi-annual employee performance management process in collaboration with the executive leadership team.
  • Manages unemployment statements, FMLA, and Parental Leave documentation.
  • Oversees and schedules all mandated staff trainings, including sexual harassment, health and safety trainings.
  • Plans and organizes staff development workshops and sessions in collaboration with the executive leadership team.
  • Updates the Employee Handbook annually and oversees the electronic deployment to staff.
  • Supports and assists administrators and managers with personnel-related matters, including timely investigations of all employee relations matters, leading with confidentiality, trust, compliance, and empathy.
  • Maintains working knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory and compliance changes, and new technology in human resources, talent management, and employment law.



  • Two or more years of human resource management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  •  Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, and related software; familiarity with ADP is a plus.
  • SHRM-CP or similar HR certification is a plus.
  • Experience in a public library or other non-profit institution is a plus.

20 to 30 hours/week, Monday-Friday



$25 to $35/hour, commensurate with experience.
