At the top of the hour Jen surprised us with "travel ease!" Also known in librarian language as Simultaneous Lonely Planet Travel Guide Downloads from OverDrive! (She also brought along the first three books in the list below, two good reads and one very fine cook book.) But her raison d'etre at the meeting this morning was travel. So Go! And no longer look like the tourist with paperback travel book on the trendy Champs Elysee. Download the whole book and, Voila - pretty pictures and maps too, onto your phone, courtesy of the Darien Library. C'est Ca! C'est Tout! Bon! Merci, Jen!
James, our resident "linguist" introduced numerous big words, one being autoantonymically (say that three times fast) because he got talking about words of yar (long ago words)that have morphed, over time, to the language we speak today. He's fascinating to listen to, always arming himself with indepth reads of historical scientific research. We are so glad he comes to visit us by the fire. His books: "Kingdom of Speech" by Tom Wolff and "Words on the Move" by John McWhorter plus "Cannabilism," "Stoner," "Wolf in the White Van" and "Universal Harvester."
The BBTF members want you to read: "Food: A Love Story" -- very funny because stand-up comedian J. Gaffigan wrote it (and reads it, hilarious, on audiobook). And one title "Intelligent Conversationalist" got everyone's attention. It provides the reader with cheat sheets so you can be the topical conversationalist at the upcoming holiday parties. Truely, they all were grabbing for it. We only have one. Put your copy on hold!
Alert -- due to the Thanksgiving holiday and all the travel that entails, we will NOT be meeting next week. So our next meeting will be November 30th. Have safe travels and a wonderful holiday.
