Welcome to Darien Library Express Services!

Darien Library is open to visitors normal hours. Some of our programs are now available in-person outdoors. Most events continue to be held virtually. Masks are required at all times while in the building and must fully cover your mouth and nose at all times. Individuals with medical exemptions will be asked for documentation.

The health and safety of our community and patrons is our top priority and we will continue to abide by federal, state, and local regulations and guidance.

Note: Access to digital borrowing is limited to Darien residents, those who work in Town, and Friends of the Library due to publishers' restrictions.

What's Different

  • Masks are required to be worn at all times while within the Library in accordance with updated guidance from the Connecticut Department of Health.
  • Children under age 12 must remain with a caregiver at all times.
  • The Teen Lounge is open Monday-Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m., Friday from 3 to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
  • The Lower Level of the Library is closed except for the Teen Lounge for the hours cited above.
  • Public computers are available on the Second Level.
  • Contactless checkouts with three self-checkouts available on the First Level.
  • Food an drinks are allowed only in the cafe area and courtyard until further notice.

Health & Safety

We care about your health and safety. Before reopening, we self-certified with the State of Connecticut that we are adhering to all health guidelines.

What We Are Doing

  • Staff will maintain a social distance of 6 feet.
  • Frequent cleaning of the building and service points.
  • Each staff desk will have Plexiglass installed on it.

What You Must Do

  • Masks must be worn in the Library at all times and fully cover the nose and mouth.
  • Children under age 12 must remain with a caregiver at all times.
  • Social distancing of 6 feet is in effect.
  • Food and drinks may be enjoyed in the cafe area or in the courtyard.

Holds & Returns

Held items are available behind the Welcome Desk. Returns are accepted seven days a week! The outdoor drop is open 24/7 while the indoor drop is available when the building is open.

Late fines were reinstated as of June 1, 2021.
