Welcome to Darien Library Express Services!

The Library is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. WiFi is available in our courtyard.

We do not have a date when full services and programs will resume. The health and safety of our community and patrons is our top priority and we will continue to abide by federal, state and local regulations and guidance.

Services Requiring an Appointment

  • The Children's Library is open for 30-minute appointment with limited walk-ins allowed. If you arrive early, please wait outside the building until time for your appointment. Book an appointment
  • Notarizations: Please use our online Notary Appointment form.
  • Bloomberg Terminal: Residents may book the Bloomberg Terminal 5 business days in advance and non-residents may book an appointment for the same day by calling that day to check availability. Appointments can only be made via email or by calling 203-669-5236.

  • Borrowing technology items including kits from the Children's Library and museum passes

What's Different

  • The Library will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Returns will only be accepted only on Saturday and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the outdoor return.
  • We are allowed 150 people in the building. Please be courteous with your time.
  • Masks must be worn at all times and fully cover the nose and mouth.
  • Half of the chairs and tables have been removed to facilitate the reduced building capacity.
  • Children under age 12 must remain with a caregiver at all times.
  • The Children's Library is open for 30-minute appointment with limited walk-ins allowed. Book an appointment
  • The Lower Level of the Library will be closed.
  • All study and meeting rooms are closed until further notice.
  • Public computers are only available on the Second Level.
  • Computer usage is limited to one 60-minute session per day.
  • Contactless checkouts with four self-checkouts available on the First Level.
  • Food and drinks must be taken to the courtyard to be enjoyed.

Health & Safety

We care about your health and safety. Before reopening, we self-certified with the State of Connecticut that we are adhering to all health guidelines.

What We Are Doing

  • Staff will wear masks at all times and maintain a social distance of 6 feet.
  • Frequent cleaning of the building and service points.
  • Each staff desk will have Plexiglass installed on it.

What You Must Do

  • Masks must be worn at all times and fully cover the nose and mouth.
  • Children under age 12 must remain with a caregiver at all times.
  • Gloves will be provided and must be worn when using a public computer.
  • Social distancing of 6 feet is in effect.
  • Entry to the building will be through the courtyard door on the parking lot side.
  • Patrons will exit through the Post Road door.
  • One-way routes through the building will be indicated.
  • Food and drinks must be taken to the courtyard to be enjoyed.

Due to the popular demand, holds will be limited to 5 per person for the time being.

Community Room Pick-up

Beginning July 1st, to maintain a contactless holds pick-up system, we will place your requested items in the Community Room (auditorium). You will enter from the courtyard entrance and leave out the side drive entrance on the other side.

Come the next business day (Monday-Friday) between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pick-up your items from the Community Room.

Returns

Returns will be accepted on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This will allow the returned items to sit in quarantine for three days so they can then be safely handled by staff. Items will be removed from your account after this three-day quarantine period. No late fines will incur.

If you have video games or technology equipment to return to the Library, please hold onto them until the next phase of the Library's reopening. We appreciate your good stewardship of these items.
