Darien Library, along with Barrett Bookstore, welcome acclaimed author, award-winning restauranteur and celebrity chef, Eric Ripert, in discussion of his new book, Seafood Simple: A Cookbook.  Eric will be in conversation with Dorothy Kalins, an award-winning magazine editor and author in her own right. Come join us for a night of delectable conversation between these two culinary masterminds!

About Eric Ripert

Eric Ripert is the chef and co-owner of New York’s internationally acclaimed seafood restaurant Le Bernardin, which has held three stars from the Michelin Guide since 2005 and has maintained a four-star rating from The New York Times for over 20 years. He is Vice Chairman of the board at City Harvest, the world’s first and New York City’s largest food rescue organization dedicated to feeding New Yorkers in need, as well as a recipient of the Legion d’Honneur, France’s highest honor.

He previously served as a regular guest judge on Bravo’s Top Chef and hosted his own TV series from 2009 to 2015, Avec Eric, which has won Emmy and James Beard awards. Ripert is the author of six cookbooks, including The New York Times bestseller Vegetable Simple, as well as My Best: Eric Ripert, Avec Eric, On the Line, A Return to CookingLe Bernardin: Four Star Simplicity, and a bestselling memoir, 32 Yolks: From My Mother’s Table to Working the Line.

About Dorothy Kalins

Dorothy Kalins has been an innovator in magazine editorial and management for decades. She is the former founding editor-in-chief of Metropolitan Home, founding editor of Saveur, which, in its first five years under her direction, won three National Magazine Awards, including one for general excellence, as well as many awards from the James Beard Foundation. She is also the former Executive Editor of Newsweek, joining the magazine in 2001, where she helped direct Newsweek’s National Magazine Award–winning coverage of 9/11.

Kalins has produced and edited many cookbooks with outstanding chefs, among them, David Tanis, Michael Anthony, Michael Solomonov, and Danny Meyer. Her personal book about cooking, The Kitchen Whisperers, Cooking With the Wisdom of Our Friends, was published by William Morrow/Harper Collins in September 2021.
