Event Details

Welcome to our Avon on Tour film series. Together we are celebrating stories that began on the page and found new life on the screen. There’s something special about experiencing a beloved book reimagined through film, noticing what changes, what stays true, and how each medium brings its own magic to the story.

If you’d like to stick around after the screening, we will have an informal conversation to discuss both the book and the film. Whether you have read the book cover to cover or are discovering the story for the first time, all perspectives are welcome. We hope you will join us for a lively and thoughtful discussion.

This week we are showing “Apollo 13.”

“Apollo 13 was just another "routine" space flight—until these infamous words pierced the immense void of space: "Houston, we have a problem." Thus begins the inspiring and riveting story of NASA's epic operation to save the lives of 3 astronauts battling to survive an ill-fated mission to the moon.” – Universal Pictures

Director: Ron Howard

Year: 1995

Starring: Tom Hanks as Commander Jim Lovell, Bill Paxton as Lunar Module Pilot Fred Haise, Kevin Bacon as backup Command Module Pilot Jack Swigert, Gary Sinise as prime Command Module Pilot Ken Mattingly, Ed Harris as White Team Flight Director Gene Kranz, and Kathleen Quinlan as Marilyn Gerlach Lovell.

This movie is 2 hour and 20 minutes and is rated PG (for language and emotional intensity).
