Darien Library welcomes Pam Doran, Digital Accessibility Coordinator for SUNY Empire State University, doctoral candidate and AI specialist, who will present an engaging lecture on artificial intelligence. This interactive session introduces AI in plain language and focuses on practical, real-world uses that matter to everyday life, including writing, research, creativity, accessibility, and multilingual communication. 

The program also examines the ethical considerations surrounding AI, such as bias, data use, and responsible decision-making. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking skills that help participants evaluate AI-generated content, understand its limitations, and use these tools thoughtfully and responsibly. 

This program is designed for a general audience, and based on the most current data which is everchanging, will demystify AI while encouraging informed experimentation, ethical awareness, and reflective engagement with emerging technologies. 

About the Presenter

Pam Doran serves as the Digital Accessibility Coordinator at SUNY Empire State University, where she is a doctoral student and is developing two AI-focused online courses. She is an experienced teacher of technology and has also worked in libraries. Pam lives in Columbia County, New York
